GR

? MOST ships anchored off Newcastle heeded advice about poor weather and headed further out to sea yesterday, as Newcastle Port Corporation activated new safety measures implemented after the Pasher Bulker's grounding.

Ships experienced seas of up to six metres and winds of up to 30 kmh and yesterday, which were expected to reach up to 75 kmh last night.

The conditions prompted 19 of the 27 vessels anchored off the port yesterday to leave the anchorage a decision in the hands of a ship's master.
